I graduated from the
University of South Carolina with my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. I started teaching in the private school
sector of education. In 2003, I finished
my master’s degree in Education, and in 2007, I found myself in transition as I
moved to the public education system. I
started teaching and coaching at Swansea High School, and transitioned to the
Swansea High Freshman Academy last year.
I also co-sponsor the BETA Club and the Science Olympiad team. I have
been teaching for 15 years, and I believe education is an important part of who
we are and what we can become. I believe
that if we can teach children that learning is fun, we will raise a generation
of high achieving, educated adults who love learning and adventure.
I’m single but love
spending time with my large family. My
hobbies include just about everything you can find to do in the outdoors, as
well as drawing, wood burning and collecting art. I love camping (in a tent), white water rafting,
swimming, cycling, and many other activities.
I also love to travel and spend several weeks each summer doing so. I have traveled through 7 countries in Europe
and hope to return soon to see some of the countries that I missed during my
first excursion. I have visited the
Caribbean and parts of Central America, where I have studied a great deal of
the Ancient Civilizations. I have also
traveled through 43 of the Continental United States and have plans for
traveling to Alaska this coming summer.
I love to take pictures and have incorporated many of them in my
classrooms lessons.
I can’t say I have too
much free time, because I like to stay busy.
I work with my nephew’s scout troops, and I’m very active in my church,
as well as with Saturday and evening recreational sporting events with my
nieces and nephews. I have coached their Robotics teams, Odyssey of the Mind
teams, and many other of their adventures, and love it all.
And of course, my blood
bleeds garnet; I am a major South Carolina fan and love to support my
gamecocks.
